Choose a photo which shows the head and neck area clearly. It can be any view, front, side, or even from the rear. Choose a photo which is in focus and shows detail clearly. Choose a photo which is well-lit, shows defined light and shadow areas (photos taken outdoors in bright light but not direct sunlight work best).
Remember, I can’t put what isn’t in the photo into the painting, unless I’m guessing. The idea is to depict your horse, not what might be your horse! I can fix some things, like removing a halter, but I can't always create details from a fuzzy image. Sometimes it's helpful to provide more than one photo, since what's missing in one picture might show up in another.
